  1. M.E Lubrication system drawing showing how bearings are lubricated.
  2. The above sketch shows the method of conveying L.O to M/E con-rod top end, Bottom end & main bearings.
  3. The Main L.O.P/p draws oil from the Sump and discharges via filters & coolers to the two manifold pipes.
  4. From, the lower manifold pipe, connections are taken to deliver oil to each main bearing upper half, thrust block, chain drive.
  5. From the upper manifold pipe, oil is supplied to each X-head via a telescopic pipe arrangement.
  6. The oil entering the X-head is branched off in several directions to supply L.O to the X-Head or top-end bearing upper half.

  7. Start the stand by L.O P/p i.e increase lubrication.
  8. Stop the engine as you get permission from bridge.
  9. Open indicator cock.
  10. Engage turning gear & turn the engine using turning gear, so as to avoid stucking of piston.
  11. Let the L.O. P/p running.
  12. Get the fire extinguishers ready.
  13. Make sure no one is standing behind the c/case relief door.
  14. Wait, until the alarm goes off.
  15. Stop the L.O. P/p.

  17. Now, open the C/case door taking door as a shield.
  18. Ventilate the C/case using blower.
  19. Go inside the C/case, make sure no naked lamp taken inside, boiler suit free of dust & oil, no object in the pocket.
  20. Check where the hot spot occurred.
  21. Repair that part.
  22. Now, start the L.O P/p and check flow of oil to all parts.

  2. Accept the alarm.
  3. Inform Bridge & Chief Engineers.
  4. Press Engineer’s alarm
  5. Slow down the engine.
  6. Increase the Cyl. Oil Lubrication.
  7. Wait for the exhaust temperature to comedown.
  8. If exhaust temperature not coming down, then take permission from bridge to stop the engine.
  9. Open indicator cock and engage the turning gear, to piston getting jammed.
  10. Now, use the fixed fire system attached for fighting fire in Scavenge space.

  1. Bearing clearances of Main Engine- how to check?
  2. Method 1.
